Ashtamahishi – The Eight Divine Queens of Lord Krishna

The Ashtamahishi refers to the eight principal queens of Lord Krishna, each a symbol of divine love, strength, and virtue. These queens held a special place in Krishna’s life and in the spiritual lore of the Bhagavata Purana and other scriptures. More than consorts, they were embodiments of dharma, devotion, and feminine power.

The eight queens are:

1. Rukmini – The chief queen, symbolizing devotion and ideal womanhood.

2. Satyabhama – Fierce and self-assured, representing strength and self-respect.

3. Jambavati – Daughter of Jambavan, known for her grace and loyalty.

4. Kalindi – River goddess and daughter of the sun god, Surya.

5. Mitravinda – A princess devoted to Krishna despite political opposition.

6. Nagnajiti (Satya) – Known for her strength and valor; won by Krishna in a test of skill.

7. Bhadra – A gentle and noble princess, beloved among the queens.

8. Lakshmana – Celebrated for her beauty and dedication.

Together, the Ashtamahishis reflect the many dimensions of divine femininity—compassion, courage, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to dharma and their beloved Lord.
